FAQs
I’ve never talked to anyone. I’m used to handling things on my own. Aren’t people who go to therapy weak?
Not at all. People who reach out for help know when they need it and have the courage to do something about it. Everyone needs support at some point. In our sessions, we’ll work together to explore your strengths and help you use them to reduce the impact of the challenges you’re facing.
What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?
Talking with us is different because we have the training and experience to guide you in a professional, structured way. We can help you approach situations with new strategies, gain fresh perspectives, and develop skills you can use outside of therapy. Sessions are confidential, meaning we do not share what you say with others without your permission.
Important: There are some limits to confidentiality. We are required by law to report situations involving abuse, neglect, or imminent danger to yourself or others. We will always discuss these limits with you upfront so you know what to expect.
Why shouldn’t I just take medication?
Medication can help, but it often works best alongside counseling. Our focus is to explore and unpack the challenges you’re experiencing while also building on your strengths to help you accomplish your goals. We work with you to create a plan that integrates whatever supports are most effective for your needs.
How does it work? What do I have to do in sessions?
Every person is unique, so our approach is tailored to your specific needs and goals. Sessions can involve talking, problem-solving, skill-building, and experiential therapies like play or sand tray work. We collaborate with you to decide what approaches will be most effective.
How long will it take?
It’s difficult to give an exact timeline because everyone’s journey is different. How long counseling takes depends on your goals, the challenges you’re addressing, and your commitment to the process. We’ll work together to track progress and adjust as needed.
I want to get the most out of therapy. What can I do to help?
Your active participation is key. The more you engage, reflect, and practice what we explore in sessions, the more progress you’ll make. We’ll provide guidance and strategies, but your dedication and openness will drive the most meaningful change.
