Supporting Twice Exceptional (2e) Clients

Twice Exceptional (2e) clients are gifted individuals who also experience learning differences, ADHD, Autism, or other challenges. This unique combination often means that traditional support services don’t fully meet their needs. At New Perspectives Counseling, we provide tailored, collaborative therapy designed to address both strengths and challenges.

We work with adults, teens, and children, helping them:

  • Understand and leverage their gifts while managing challenges

  • Build coping strategies for anxiety, depression, or behavioral struggles

  • Strengthen social, emotional, and executive functioning skills

  • Develop long-term strategies for personal, academic, and career success

Diagnosis Criteria & Resources:

  • Twice Exceptional (2e) is not a single diagnosis but a description of individuals who meet criteria for giftedness (high cognitive or creative abilities) and one or more learning, developmental, or neurodiverse challenges, such as ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, dyslexia, or anxiety.

  • Giftedness criteria often include standardized testing, teacher or parent observations, and performance assessments.

  • Additional resources for families:

    • National Association for Gifted Children (NAGC): www.nagc.org

    • 2e Twice-Exceptional Newsletter & Community: www.2enewsletter.com

    • CHADD (Children and Adults with ADHD): www.chadd.org

Our approach integrates behavioral strategies, trauma- and attachment-informed care, Sandtray/Play Therapy, and IFS-informed techniques, all personalized to meet each client’s unique profile. We also partner with families to ensure support is consistent across home, school, and community settings.

At New Perspectives Counseling, we believe that being twice exceptional is a strength, not a limitation. We help clients and families navigate the challenges while honoring their individuality and potential.
